DRIVERS OF MOTOR HOMES NOW ELIGIBLE FOR DEFENSIVE DRIVING DISCOUNT

GateHouse News Service - Thu Jan 14, 2010

Wilmington, DE - Motorists who drive a motor home are now eligible for the automobile insurance discount afforded to people who take defensive driving courses.

The motor homes join private passenger cars, trucks and motorcycles on the list of eligible vehicles.

Delaware Insurance Commissioner Karen Weldin Stewart implemented the change to the defensive driving program on Jan. 1.

The program mandates that Delaware drivers receive a 10 percent discount on liability and personal injury protection premiums paid for their motor vehicle insurance when they complete defensive driving courses available throughout the state or online.

That 10 percent minimum discount is good for three years, at which time drivers who successfully complete a refresher course will see that discount increase to a minimum of 15 percent for the next three years.

Refresher courses can then be taken every three years thereafter. A list of approved defensive driving course providers is available here.
